Canela Reyes ha trabajado como directora, escritora, investigadora y jurado de cine en Colombia. Su película “La Bonga” (2023), co-dirigida con Sebastián Pinzón, ha participado en cerca de 40 festivales y ha ganado nueve premios incluyendo mejor ópera prima en Cinéma Du Réel en París, Mejor Documental en Cinélatino Toulouse y Mejor Dirección en Cinemancia Medellín. Canela trabajó como co-guionista, co-productora e investigadora en "Lapü" (Sundance, Berlinale 2019), y en “Carropasajero” (Visions Du Réel 2024). Sus proyectos han sido expuestos en otros festivales como CPH:DOX, Documenta Madrid, FICCI, DMZ Docs, Montréal RIDM, SFFILM o MoMA Doc Fortnight. Es co-fundadora de Jarana Cine, El Cauce - Narrativas Transmedia, y Video Consortium Colombia. Ha sido jurado de cortometrajes en el Festival de Cine Cinemancia y en el Festival de Cine Mambe. Dirigió Omí VR (FICCI 2019), experiencia en realidad virtual, y "Padre, Tierra", serie podcast, ganadora del Premio Nacional de Periodismo Simón Bolívar 2023. Ha trabajado como documentalista en la Fundación Gaia Amazonas y en la Friederich-Ebert Stiftung en Colombia, y participado en el Grupo de Sistemas Religiosos Afro. Actualmente desarrolla sus siguientes películas como directora, “Gigante” (FDC) y "Las almas ni los ojos" (FDC), y trabaja como asesora, escritora y co-productora en películas de género híbrido que reflexionan sobre la imaginación, el conflicto, la muerte y la memoria. Canela Reyes estudió antropología y literatura en la Universidad de los Andes en Bogotá.

Canela Reyes has worked as a director, writer, researcher, and jury in different Colombian films. Her film “La Bonga” (2023), co-directed with Sebastián Pinzón, has participated in nearly 40 festivals and has won nine prizes including Best First Feature at Cinéma Du Réel in Paris, Best Documentary at Cinélatino Toulouse, and Best Direction in Cinemancia Medellin. She worked as a co-writer, co-producer, and researcher in "Lapü" (Sundance, Berlinale 2019), and in "Carropasajero" (Visions Du Réel 2024). Her projects have been exhibited at other festivals such as CPH:DOX, Documenta Madrid, FICCI, DMZ Docs, Montréal RIDM, SFFILM or MoMA Doc Fortnight. She is co-founder of Jarana Cine, El Cauce - Narrativas Transmedia, and Video Consortium Colombia. She has been a short film jury at the Cinemancia Film Festival and in Mambe Film Festival in Colombia. She directed Omí VR (FICCI 2019), a virtual reality experience, and "Padre, Tierra", a podcast series, winner of the National Journalism Prize Simon Bolivar 2023. She has worked as a documentary filmmaker at the Gaia Amazonas Foundation, and at the Friederich-Ebert Stiftung in Colombia, and participated in the Afro Religious Systems Group. She is currently developing her next films as a director, "Gigante" (FDC) and "Las almas ni los ojos" (FDC), and working as an advisor, writer and co-producer on hybrid genre films that reflect on imagination, conflict, death and memory. Canela Reyes studied anthropology and literature at the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia.
