Canela Reyes es una cineasta e investigadora colombiana cuyo trabajo reflexiona sobre la relación entre comunidad, imaginación, muerte y memoria. Su primer largometraje, "La Bonga" (2023), codirigido con Sebastián Pinzón, ganó el premio a Mejor Ópera Prima en Cinéma du Réel (París) y Mejor Documental en Cinélatino Toulouse, entre otros premios en 50 festivales. Canela coescribió, coprodujo y lideró la investigación de "Lapü" (Sundance, Berlinale 2019), y participó como coguionista y asistente de dirección en "Carropasajero" (Visions du Réel 2024) y en "Los sueños viajan con el viento" (Sheffield DocFest 2024). En 2023, recibió el Premio Nacional de Periodismo Simón Bolívar por su pódcast "Padre, Tierra". Estudió Antropología y Literatura en la Universidad de los Andes en Bogotá. Ha trabajado como documentalista para la Fundación Gaia Amazonas y la Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung en Colombia, y ha sido jurado en muestras y festivales de cine. Su segunda película como codirectora, "Las Almas ni los Ojos", se estrenará en el FICCI 2026. Actualmente está finalizando su último largometraje, "Gigante" (CNC Francia, Tënk, LaScam, Residencias Walden y FDC Colombia). Canela es cofundadora de Jarana Cine, productora enfocada en el cine híbrido y participativo.

Canela Reyes is a Colombian filmmaker and researcher whose work reflects on the relationship between community, imagination, death, and memory. Her debut feature film, "La Bonga" (2023), co-directed with Sebastián Pinzón, won the Best First Feature Award at Cinéma du Réel (Paris) and Best Documentary at Cinélatino Toulouse, among other awards at 50 festivals. Canela co-wrote, co-produced, and led the research for "Lapü" (Sundance, Berlinale 2019), and worked as co-screenwriter and assistant director on "Carropasajero" (Visions du Réel 2024) and "Dreams Travel with the Wind" (Sheffield DocFest 2024). In 2023, she received Colombia’s National Journalism Award (Premio Simón Bolívar) for her podcast "Padre, Tierra". She studied Anthropology and Literature at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. She has worked as a documentary filmmaker for Fundación Gaia Amazonas and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Colombia, and has served as a jury member at film showcases and festivals. Her second film as co-director, "Las Almas ni los Ojos", will premiere at FICCI 2026. She is currently completing her latest feature film, "Gigante" (CNC France, Tënk, LaScam, Residencias Walden, and FDC Colombia). Canela is co-founder of Jarana Cine, a production company focused on hybrid and participatory cinema.
